Global village, big differences

It is time for an international blog today. The reason for that is the wonderful statistics of my blog. The computers viewing my web-log are not only in the Netherlands but also for other countries. From the United States of America to Russia, and from Singapore (thanks dad and brother) to Tunisia. It is very nice to see that also people from other countries around the world are checking my blog (it can also be an automatic check by government computers, but that is not clear).
I do wonder how people from Russia or the US understand my blogs as they are in Dutch. But what does it matter. You are somehow interested so now a blog in English.

Seeing all the different countries made me realize even more how small the world has become due to communication via the web. The world has really become a global village. Surely not every single person in the world has access to it, but a growing number does. And that is good. Because we are all different we have to get to know one another. Get to respect one another. Differences are good, not everybody has to be the same or have the same principles. Even within the Western society we have different sets of values. That is what makes life so interesting. It is getting to learn how to deal with those differences and develop society through that. That sometimes means struggle and even battle, because we see the world from different points of view.

In the global village we now live in networks of people are made where people from different countries and cultures, but with the same interests help each other out and talk to one another.

I would like to end this blog with the famous words from president John F. Kennedy spoken in 1963, more true than ever in this global village with big differences, and basically the most important assignment for us today and the future:
'So, let us not be blind to our differences -- but let us also direct attention to our common interests and to the means by which those differences can be resolved. And if we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity. For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal.' (http://www.ratical.org/co-globalize/JFK061063.html).
